Who is a yogaphysician?

Yogaphysician uses his knowledge of medicine, physiology of the human body and integrates it with the yoga science and ancient traditional system of health and healing to offer the patients a holistic care plan directed to mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
Yogaphysician tries to blend scientific and evidence based yoga into medicine. Yogaphysician introduces yoga and meditative techniques to empower us to handle daily stress (eustress/distress) and focuses on preventive medicine to achieve a utopian state of health.
A yogaphysician designs a prescribed program for each individual he or she works with in order to address the persons specific needs and concerns. The program then can be practiced at home. A unique feature of yoga therapy is that the patient must actively participate in one’s own treatment and healing and a yogaphysician initiates and supports him or her to achieve this.

Consultation

The consultations usually last for 2 hours on each sitting. Prior to deciding a program, the yogaphysician takes a detailed medical history and considers the various patient factors such as body weight, age, health, overall physical fitness and pre-existing medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, epilepsy, asthma etc and surgical conditions such as bypass surgery, hysterectomy, laparotomy and other operations.
The yogaphysician also takes into consideration various therapeutic drugs the person may be on and also determines their lifestyle after discussion with them which goes hand in hand in understanding many chronic conditions. You may be referred for some baseline investigations. Sometimes these test may have already been organized by your GP and you may not require to do them again, provided results of tests are brought in.
Once a patients basic physical condition has been addressed a therapeutic yoga program can be structured which addresses a patients physical, mental and emotional need and also allows them to accept their limitations in each area.
This affords the person the ability to reduce the symptoms in the privacy of their own homes.
A sample program is then demonstrated to the person and followed up in the follow up visits.
The program is supported by the yogaphysician during these follow up appointments and also through telephone consultations and online sessions. Support during the program is also offered through reading material, CDs, videos and webcam consults.
